THTalksBengaluru: ‘Those with any grievance can complain on 112’

City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said anyone with any complaints or grievances can call 112 and lodge their complaints. “Everything you say on a call to 112 is on record. Even if you say a police officer is demanding a bribe or harassing you, even those are registered as complaints and referred to senior officers,” he said. He was speaking at #THTalksBengaluru, responding to readers’ questions on Monday. Responding to concerns flagged over citizens not able to get through to 112 in their first attempt, Mr. Singh said there was a problem earlier, but it has been resolved now. “We have made a technology upgrade, doubling the number of calls our command centre can take at once. If earlier, we could take a hundred calls, now we can take 200 calls,” he said. A reader had written in as to how despite a specific request, women police personnel are not sent in Hoysalas that respond to a 112 call, Mr. Singh said women personnel may not be available at all times of the day. “The Hoysalas vehicles may not always have female personnel. In such scenarios, personnel from the local police station can join them,” he said. Mr. Singh said that feedback to 112 responses had been good and in cases where there was a negative feedback, such teams are called back and advised on what went wrong. “We have been able to nip many potential crimes in the bud because of 112,” he said.
