Throwback: Rekha Gupta Once Led Delhi University as DUSU President

Rekha Gupta was elected as the fourth woman chief minister of Delhi earlier this year. This marked the return of the BJP in the national capital after 27 years. Her interest in politics did not develop recently, she has been actively interested in politics since her college days. So much so that she won the Delhi University presidential elections in the year 1996-97. However, she completed her studies at a government school in Delhi and then went to the University of Delhi. She completed a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) from Delhi University’s Daulat Ram College. She later earned a law degree from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut. Rekha Gupta Political Career She started her journey with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in 1992. She later became secretary of the Delhi University Students’ Union in 1995-96 and was elected president in 1996-97. The Delhi CM has been associated with RSS since 2002. During this span of 23 years, she held key positions, including national secretary of the party’s youth wing and in charge of the BJP women’s wing in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. She was elected as councillor three times and represented North Pitampura between 2007 and 2017. She then overtook Shalimar Bagh from 2022 onwards. DUSU Elections 2025 Result Today Delhi University students voted to choose their President, Vice President, secretary, and other posts on September 18. A total of 21 candidates are in the fray for four posts. Counting for DUSU elections 2025 began this morning at North Campus at the multipurpose hall of the University Sports Stadium. As of now (12 noon), ABVP’s Aryan Maan is leading for president with 1,196 votes. NSUI’s Rahul Jhansla is leading for vice president with 1,606 votes. Over 600 police personnel are on duty and CCTV cameras are also in place for security. The result will be released later today.
