Bengaluru: The woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a tenant living in the same co-living paying guest (PG) in Bengaluru’s Whitefield area told the police that she opened the door, thinking that it was her friend, said a media report. However, what followed was a chain of horror, she added. In her complaint, the woman told the police that Sai Babu Chennuru, 37, barged into her room, clicked her private photos, and took away some money. The woman, a private bank employee, added that the accused had pulled out a knife to attack her. What Happened? The incident took place at 3am on September 16, according to the woman. She said she went to answer the door after hearing a ringbell. She thought it was her friend, but Sai Babu was there. He forced his way inside, locked the door, and took out a knife. The woman said she collapsed after the accused stabbed her on the left side of her back, reported The Times of India. Thereafter, he kissed and stripped the woman, clicked photos on his mobile, kissed and forced himself on her. When she resisted, the accused threatened to kill her and himself, and asked for Rs 70,000. The woman pleaded that she did not have this much money to give him, so he transferred Rs 14,000 from her account to his, using a digital wallet. He warned the woman not to tell anyone about the incident; otherwise, he would send her private pictures to her family. But the woman somehow informed a friend of hers, who took her to the hospital at 7 am. The police have booked Sai on charges of attempt to murder, outraging the modesty of a woman, sexual harassment, and extortion, based on her complaint. Meanwhile, Sai has made counter allegations, saying he was in love with her for the past two months. Sai, who is a resident of Andhra Pradesh, said they were quarreling, which turned into a violent incident. He claimed that when he returned to the PG late on 16 September, two staff members and three others locked him in a room and beat him. Police have registered both cases. Preliminary investigations show that the two had known each other for a couple of months. “Sai has been arrested, and we are continuing the investigation,” a senior police officer said.
