Thoothukudi District Collector K. Elambahavath has released a draft electoral roll of the district, here on Friday. As per the draft, 237 additional polling stations will be created across six constituencies, taking the total number of polling stations in the district to 1,864.
As per the electoral roll published for Thoothukudi district on January 6, 2025, the district had a total of 1,627 polling stations with 260 in Vilathikulam, 284 in Thoothukudi, 266 in Tiruchendur, 265 in Srivaikuntam, 266 in Ottapidaram and 286 in Kovilpatti.
However, as polling booths with more than 1,200 voters are being bifurcated, 237 new polling stations will be created in the district. Of these, 14 will be in Vilathikulam, 29 in Kovilpatti, 49 in Ottapidaram, 76 in Thoothukudi, 28 in Srivaikuntam and 41 in Tiruchendur.
The total number of voters in the Thoothukudi district now stands at 14,90,425 with 7,28,026 men, 7,62,166 women and 233 others.
Regarding the corrections made in the electoral roll, including relocation of polling stations, building change, name change and in other errors and correction, Thoothukudi constituency has the highest number of corrections, at 224.
Before releasing the draft electoral roll, the Collector also inspected the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) security vault, in the presence of authorised political party representatives.
