At a prayer vigil for Charlie Kirk on Sunday at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Kari Lake, Trump’s Senior Advisor to the United States Agency for Global Media, gave a plea to mothers across the nation.
Lake urged that violence has to stop before launching into an attack on “the other side” and universities. “I’m not gonna say our side is perfect, but dammit, this is coming from the other side,” she said to a round of applause.
“How does a 22-year-old become so filled with hate?” she asked.
“Five years earlier, I was told he was a Trump supporter. And we send our kids off to college, and they brainwashed ’em.”

Lake then gave her plea: “I am making a plea to mothers out there: Do not send your children into these indoctrination camps. Don’t do it. Do not do it.” Lake was met with another roaring applause.
She went on: “By all accounts, his parents did a good job raising him,” she said of the suspect’s childhood — “until he was sent off to be brainwashed.”
She then argued: “We have lived through the most horrific brainwashing campaign in the history of mankind. And the very fact that we’re all here means we have somehow survived it. We’ve survived it. But too many youngsters are not surviving it. And we gotta stand up. Because some things are non-negotiable. Our children’s minds and futures are non-negotiable.”
A portion of the clip quickly went viral on X (formerly Twitter).

Here’s what people had to say:
“Translation: keep your kids dumb so they never question us.”
“Everyone should be incredibly skeptical of anyone who says not to allow your children to access higher education, which is still one of the biggest builders of generational wealth and economic advancement. They want you poor and stupid. Don’t give it to them.”

“The 22-year-old she’s referring to went to USU, one of the most conservative universities in the nation, for ONE semester.”
“Kari. He was a pre-engineering major for one semester at Utah State. He was a student in an electrical apprentice program at the time of the shooting. You are choosing to advance a false narrative for political gain. Shame on you.”

“But… Kirk was at colleges…. So was he trying to indoctrinate? This rhetoric is insane.”
And lastly, “Meanwhile all their kids attend college.”
