What level of adulting is it when you get to the point of deciding whether or not to purchase your own chafing dishes? Because I fear, I’ve finally arrived. Whether by some cosmic happenstance or the inescapable churn of the all-knowing algorithm, my social feed has been filled with videos promoting a particular style of hosting, complete with shiny stainless-steel chafing dishes that look breathtakingly luxe even through the limitations of a phone screen. It’s caused me to question my entire Thanksgiving setup and rethink the logistics of the meal altogether, as well as to get ahead of it—yes, I’ve been influenced. I know, I have no idea who I am right now either. That’s not to say that chafing dishes come without downsides, though. Depending on the size of your gathering, keeping everything hot on the stove might serve you just fine, and at least you don’t have to try to find space to store another item you’ll only use for special occasions. 😋😋SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter🍳🍔 Not to mention, chafing dishes often require water to transfer heat, and having to refill them constantly can get messy—see: annoying. You also need to purchase fuel cans, ensure they stay lit throughout your meal, and consider how much space they’ll take up on your countertop alongside everything else you plan to put out. In short, it’s a particular purchase. But if the goal is to keep your food warm for hours without sacrificing space or having to keep an eye on a fickle flame and water, what other solution is there? Enter: Host Modern’s Thermal Serving Dish. Thermal Serving Dish, $99 at Host Modern This first-of-its-kind product promises to keep your food hot or cold for hours without the need for fuel cans, water baths, or ice, and it takes up minimal space, allowing you to still have plenty of room to display everything else you plan to have. Essentially, the product acts as a Stanley cup or Yeti for your food by using the same double-wall, vacuum-insulated technology to keep your turkey piping hot long after you’ve finished cooking. Each container features an included inner pan that you can remove and cook in, then slip back inside once your dish is done. The base is also compatible with 9-by-13-inch single-use aluminum pans, giving you plenty of serving options. It also includes nonslip feet and a leak-proof lid, and after use, you can toss it into the dishwasher for easy cleanup. And most importantly, its relatively simple shape and size make it a breeze to store. Although it’s not exactly cheap at $99 for one, shoppers who have tried it are raving, with one person saying, “I’m already ordering another one.”
