Tesla Is Expanding Its Presence In India
Tesla officially entered the Indian market on July 15, opening its first showroom in Mumbai. Located in the upscale Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) inside Maker Maxity Mall, the facility serves as an “experience centre,” allowing visitors to explore Tesla models up close and learn more about electric vehicles.
The Model Y is the primary car being sold, available in two versions: the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and the Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD). The ex-showroom price of the RWD version is Rs 59.89 lakh, while the AWD variant is priced at Rs 67.89 lakh. On-road prices in Mumbai can reach up to Rs 69.15 lakh.
Before Siddharth Jain, the first Tesla delivery in India was made to Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik. He took delivery of a Model Y directly from the Mumbai showroom. After this symbolic first delivery, Siddharth Jain became the first business tycoon in India to own a Tesla.
Tesla Is Expanding In India To Promote Electric Mobility
On August 11, Tesla opened its second showroom in Delhi, located in Aerocity, as part of its strategy to cater to the growing demand for electric vehicles in the Indian capital.
Despite high import duties and premium pricing, Tesla’s entry into India is viewed as a significant step towards promoting electric mobility. The move is expected to strengthen EV infrastructure and encourage more individuals and businesses to embrace sustainable transportation.
