Currently there are only four cities that have the distinction of hosting both an IIT and an IIM, but do you know which is that only state in India which hosts two IITs? As of now, there are a total of 23 IITs and 21 IIMs in the country that are located in different parts of India, with a new a new Indian Institute of Management (IIM) coming up in Guwahati as announced by the Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on August 20. However, there is no state or city in India that houses two IITs, and the state that hosts two different Indian Institute of Technology is Uttar Pradesh. UP is the only Indian state to house two IITs, which are IIT Kanpur and IIT (BHU) Varanasi. It was later designated an Indian Institute of Technology in 2012 and has since been known as IIT (BHU) Varanasi. Interestingly, IIT (BHU) Varanasi has formerly been known as the Banaras Engineering College (BENCO), the College of Mining and Metallurgy (MINMET), the College of Technology (TECHNO) and the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IT-BHU).
