Alert the media: Donal Skehan’s been rubbing shoulders with A-listers again! On the latest episode of Arthur and Donal’s podcast, Let’s Do This!, the chef spills on his recent encounter with a very famous face.
Donal and his wife Sofie were holidaying in Venice, Italy, over the weekend. Though it’s a city renowned for being loved by the stars, the couple weren’t expecting to bump into none other than Hugh Grant.
Taking a leaf out of Arthur’s book and name-dropping as he goes, Donal says: ‘This is top level now, I’ve had good star spots in my days.’
‘I’ve had dinner beside Nicole Kidman and her husband, [my] kids were surfing beside Reese Witherspoon’s kids,’ Donal says, before Arthur starts guessing who his pal ran into in Venice airport.
Eventually, Donal spills that he and Sofie bumped into Hugh Grant, and Arthur is a little less than impressed because, ‘I’ve partied with Hugh Grant, when he was dating Liz Hurley.’

Donal insists his wife is not one to be starstruck, but was in shock when she laid eyes on Hugh. Noticing the all-too-familiar look in Sofie’s eyes, Hugh apparently rolled his eyes at the fact that he’d been recognised!
Elsewhere, Arthur chats about how he’s eagerly awaiting the arrival of winter because he’s fed up of cleaning the autumnal leaves that are falling in his back garden.
Every day, Arthur finds himself needing to clean up the leaves, and young Blake has become accustomed to watching her Papa in action, and if he’s not, she tells him he needs to continue his quest!
One thing the autumn does bring that Arthur welcomes with open arms is Halloween. He speaks of how the Dowling-Gourounlian household is Halloween mad, and they’re already planning their costumes.
Donal doesn’t share his pal’s enthusiasm for Halloween, however, and is scolded by Arthur for not attending his Halloween extravaganza.
It’s not better luck next time, unfortunately, as Donal has once again declined Arthur’s invite, and will instead be making a traditional brack (which, surprisingly, Arthur’s never heard of!) with the Skehan clan.
