Longest-range ICBM: India recently test-fired the nuclear-capable Agni-Prime missile which is designed to be the countrys first intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) when its achieves its expected range of over 8000 km. But did you know that the worlds longest-range ICBM has a range of more than 18000 kilometers? Which country has worlds longest-range ICBM? The RS-28 Sarmat aka the Satan 2 Russias heavy-duty intercontinental ballistic missile is recognized as the worlds long-range ballistic missile with a range of approximately 18000 kilometers making it capable of striking any target in any corner of the world from within Russia or any other launch site. A silo-based ICBM RS-28 Sarmat one of the deadliest missiles ever built with inbuilt countermeasures to prevent interception from conventional air defense systems making it a strategic asset for Russia. The nuclear-capable missile is designed to carry heavy MIRV (Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicles) payloads and hypersonic glide vehicles. How does Chinas DF-41 measure up? While the RS-28 Sarmat is undoubtedly a lethal weapon of mass destruction Chinas DF-41 ICBM isnt far behind. The missile has a range between 12000 and 15000 and its road-mobile launch capability makes its extremely difficult for defense systems to track and counter. Experts believe the DF-41 is capable of carrying multiple MIRV warheads both nuclear and conventional making it an effective component of Beijings efforts to maintain a global strategic balance. Notably China recently unveiled the DF-5C its most advanced ultra-long range Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) which reportedly has a range of over 20000 kilometers which would make it the longest-range ballistic missile in existence. Is India developing an ICBM? On Wednesday the Defence Ministry that India has successfully test-fired the Agni-Prime missile with a range of 2000 km from a rail-based mobile launcher system demonstrating its capability to deploy the missile across the country. In a statement the ministry said the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in collaboration with the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) carried out the successful launch of intermediate range Agni-Prime missile under a full operational scenario on Wednesday. According to reports efforts are underway to make the missile achieve a range of over 8000 km with a full payload which would make it the first ICBM in Indias missile arsenal.
