With the Connecticut capital of Hartford located in the central part of the state, 116 miles from JFK and 124 miles from Newark, those who live near the city often face a long drive every time they take a flight anywhere. While it’s the second-largest airport in New England after Boston Logan (BOS), Bradley International (BDL) in Hartford offers a limited number of flights on mostly low-cost airlines. In the last months of 2025, a number of airlines have also pulled their service out of the airport. Spirit and Avelo Airlines will both cancel their last flights into BDL by 2026, citing similar reasons of low traffic relative to high cost of operations. “The revenues on the market did not cover the costs,” the latter Houston-based carrier said of the decision to cut routes into Hartford from Cancun, Punta Cana, and Jamaica’s Montego Bay. BermudAir becomes latest airline to pull out of Bradley International: this is why The latest airline to cancel service into Bradley International is BermudAir. Founded in 2023 as a boutique holiday airline flying to the Caribbean island country from the East Coast of the U.S., the airline had been running flights to L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA) twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays since April. The carrier initially envisioned to position itself as an all-business airline with a one-to-one armchair configuration on its Embraer E175 planes, but eventually shifted to a regular two-by-two seating scheme with fares that at some point in the year it slashed to $99 in each direction. The Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA), which oversees airports in the state, said the sudden cancellation came as a result of “a shift in [BermudAir’s] network strategy,” such that demand did not justify the flight’s costs. “The Connecticut Airport Authority is disappointed that BermudAir has elected to suspend its nonstop service between Bradley International Airport and Bermuda due to a shift in their network strategy,” the CAA said in a Nov. 11 statement. Booked flight canceled due to airline? These are your options The cancellation goes into effect immediately. On its website, BermudAir states that for travelers whose booked travel had been canceled due to changes within its control, the airline “will rebook you onto one of our other services at no cost to you or refund the cost of the portion(s) of the ticket not used.” BermudAir could not be reached for comment on why it is canceling service. The CAA noted that the market for direct flights to sunny destinations out of Connecticut remains strong.
