Now that fall has officially arrived, it seems fitting to talk about pumpkin spice.
Haters are going to hate, and while pumpkin spice is certainly polarizing, those that embrace the blend of spices that flavor pumpkin pie – usually cinnamon, sugar, nutmeg, ginger, cloves and sometimes allspice – enjoy it in everything from cookies to hot beverages
If you don’t like the flavor, look away.
But for those that embrace the taste, here are some of the top coffee shops in and near Wilmington that Yelp suggests for pumpkin spice lattes:
Legal Grounds Cafe
1208 Kirkwood Highway, Elsmere
The cafe owned by a law office has inside dining, outside dining and takeout. Lattes range from $4 to $5.25. Pair it with a bagel, muffin, croissant or cookie. The cafe also serves breakfast sandwiches, BLTs, salads and a quinoa bowl.
Sleeping Bird Coffee
3111 Miller Road, Wilmington
A flavored latte, hot or iced, is $5. The takeout shop offers seasonal flavors, as well as standard menu items like honey cinnamon and cookie batter lattes. The menu also has brownies, bagels, avocado toast, sandwiches (including a gluten-free wrap), chia seed pudding cup and salads
It’s sister location, Sleeping Bird Doughnuts at 4001 Concord Pike in Talleyville, open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday through Sunday is well-known for its tasty and wide variety of old-fashioned, cake-style doughnuts, brioche and brioche rings. The bakery has fresh baked breakfast and lunch items, along with pastries, quiches and crepes. All the products are prepared on site daily. Coffee drinks are made with Philadelphia favorite, La Colombe, which provides a variety of high quality hot and cold brew coffees. Lattes range from $4.75 to $6.

Pumpkin spice lattes range from $5.25 to $5.95. The menu also includes bulgogi breakfast bowl, build your own omelets, turkey bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches, and ramen bowls.
