In a rather major shocker for H-1B visa holders, US President Donald Trump- in a bid to ‘protect American jobs’- signed an order that somewhat flipped almost everything for these visa holders. Reportedly, people applying for H-1B visas are now required to pay a USD 100,000 fee for the process. The move was also to ensure that only the ‘most skilled’ foreign individuals take up American jobs in the future. As soon as the reports on the same began to go viral, netizens from all around the world began to react. With many Indians working in the US with an H-1B visa in hand, the matter also made headlines in India. Social media, on the other hand, witnessed a meme fest- along with some serious concerns- on the order. Amid the same reactions, an old video began to go viral, leaving netizens divided. The video-in-question was of Michio Kaku, American theoretical physicist and science writer, talking about a ‘US without foreign workers’ from other countries- especially from China and India. As per Kaku, not only will such a shift affect big companies like Google, but he also stated that there ‘will be no Silicon Valley’ without foreign high-skilled workers from the said Asian countries. The clip left many divided, as some agreed with the man and his deduction, while the rest had something else to say. Coming to the order, it will come into effect on September 21, Sunday- from 12:01 am EDT. Check out the viral post: “Trump just killed the American economy by imposing a $100K fee for H-1B visa!” the post read. The post was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘fk_haterz’.
