The Samvidhana Samrakshana Samiti will organise a theatre play titled “Yellara Ambedkar” based on the life and legacy of B.R. Ambedkar in Kalaburagi on Friday. Addressing a press conference, district president of the samiti Mahantesh Kaulagi and State secretary Anilkumar Beldar said that the one-and-a-half-hour play will highlight Dr. Ambedkar’s academic, political and social journey, his struggles, achievements and contribution to the nation. Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge will inaugurate the event, while Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil and Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board Chairman Ajay Singh will be the guests. Senior Dalit leader Vitthal Doddamani will preside over the event. The play, presented in collaboration with Hyderabad-based Abhyudaya Arts Academy, features a 30-member troupe. The group has staged over 700 performances of “Yellara Ambedkar” across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in Telugu and will now perform in Kannada for the audience in Kalaburagi. The play is scripted in Kannada by K. Devendra, directed by Shivaprasad Thamu, with music by Ismail Gonal and Ravi Kalyan. The play will be staged at Dr. S.M. Pandit Rangamandir Auditorium at 5 p.m. on Friday.
