The White Lotus season four will reportedly be set at hotels in both the south of France, and in the country’s capital, Paris. In September, Deadline reported that The White Lotus creator Mike White had settled on France as his destination of choice for the Emmy-winning show’s next outing. After season three took place in Thailand, it was reported that White was keen to bring the show back to Europe. Season two took place on the island of Sicily. Now, Variety has reported that White has not only zoned in on France, but selected the exact locations he wants to shoot in. The publication reports that HBO has been scouting hotels in Paris, with five-star properties including Le Lutetia and Ritz Paris lined up as possible settings. Likely contenders for locations in the south of France include Monaco, known as the richest place in the French Riviera, as well as Nice and Cannes. Season three of the hit black comedy murder mystery series took place in Thailand, with the bulk of it being set in Koh Samui, and some scenes with Rick (Walton Goggins) taking place in Bangkok. HBO is yet to confirm that The White Lotus season four will take place in France, but White himself previously revealed his hope to find a different kind of location to those previously used. “For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the crashing waves on rocks vernacular,” he said following the end of season three back in April this year. “But there’s always more room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.” Variety reports that the fourth season will not begin shooting until next year. For the first three seasons of The White Lotus, HBO partnered with global hotel chain Four Seasons, setting the show in their properties in Hawaii, Sicily and Thailand. While there are four Four Seasons hotels in France, including in the French Riviera and in Paris, Variety has reported that HBO’s partnership with Four Seasons is yet to be renewed, hence other hotels being scouted. Season three of The White Lotus was another huge hit for Mike White, despite more lukewarm reviews from critics. It received ten Primetime Emmy Award nominations at this year’s ceremony in September, including Outstanding Drama Series, and acting nominations for Aimee Lou Wood, Jason Isaacs, Walton Goggins, Sam Rockwell, Parker Posey, Carrie Coon, and Natasha Rothwell. However, the series did not win one Primetime Emmy, only a Primetime Creative Arts Emmy in the Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music category. Cristobal Tapia de Veer, who created the music and won the accolade, announced earlier this year that he would be leaving The White Lotus over disagreements with Mike White. Earlier this week, White shared his desire to have Sydney Sweeney return to The White Lotus to reprise her season one role as Olivia Mossbacher, but that it seemed unlikely. “I don’t know if we could afford her now,” White said adding, “As of now, it doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen,” he said.
