The week ahead in business: The build-up to Budget 2026 starts in earnest

The Oireachtas Committee on Budgetary Oversight will hold a series of engagements with stakeholders from this week, ahead of the Budget itself on October 7.

On Tuesday, the committee will meet representatives from the Central Bank of Ireland, Nevin Economic Research Institute and Ibec.

They meet Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe and Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation Minister Jack Chambers on Wednesday.

From Tuesday to Thursday, Deloitte is hosting The Shared Services Conference in Dublin.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) will publish its wholesale price index for August today, including the monthly trend of prices for goods in the wholesale market.

On Thursday, it will release the characteristics of residential property purchasers – a breakdown of the age, income and area of individuals who are buying properties in Ireland.

Housebuilder Glenveagh will publish half-year results on Thursday.

Elsewhere, data in the coming week will shed more light on the US housing market in the wake of last Wednesday’s interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve.

The data will included numbers on existing and new home sales.

US economic data next week includes an updated read of second-quarter gross domestic product, manufacturing and services sector reports, and the personal consumption expenditures price index, a closely watched inflation gauge.

In Europe, flash Consumer Confidence numbers for the EU are due today.

Along with lending data for firms and households, they will provide an insight into the state of the economy, across the European Union.

Closer to home, Ireland’s Credit Union Consumer Sentiment Index is due on Friday.
