The UK's most 'porn-obsessed' city has been revealed

A new study has revealed the most “porn-obsessed” city in the UK. Online pharmacy MedExpress asked 600 male Brits about their porn consumption and anlaysed Google search data for explicit content. The study revealed that over four in five men (82 per cent) in the UK watch porn, and over a quarter (26 per cent) said they couldn’t quit it for 90 days. Over a third (36 per cent) of participants admitted to watching porn in public spaces, including at work (17 per cent), in public bathrooms (14 per cent) and on public transport (5 per cent). To identify where in the UK might be at the highest risk from porn-related dependency, MedExpress analysed ten core porn related searches and measured them against per capita data. Newcastle upon Tyne topped the list for porn consumption, with 629, 260 average monthly Google searches for key porn terms, averaging at 3.27 average monthly porn searches per person. At the bottom of the list was Cambridge, with 0.06 monthly searches per resident. Here are the cities that ranked highest for porn consumption, and the average monthly searches per resident: Here are the cities that ranked lowest for porn consumption, and the average monthly searches per resident: The survey also asked men about their relationship to porn, revealing that 34 per cent had accessed it when they were younger than 10 years old. The majority of participants said that porn was impacting their sex lives, with more than half (55 per cent) admitting to hiding their porn habits from potential partners. 64 per cent said it has contributed to their erectile dysfunction, 57 per cent said it set unrealistic bedroom expectations and 32 per cent said they find real sex less exciting. “We are seeing more evidence linking increased porn consumption to erectile dysfunction and desensitisation, diminishing sexual satisfaction and intimate relationships,” Doctor Sophie Dix said. The survey also revealed that porn was impacting men’s mental health. 62% reported negative effects, including guilt, shame, addiction, lower self-esteem, and difficulty concentrating. However, UK porn habits may be shifting. The survey indicated that the Online Safety Act, requiring users to submit a form of personal ID for age verification to watch porn, has deterred Brits from watching it. 40 per cent of British men said that age verification had discouraged them from watching porn, which tracks with data showing porn traffic on the decline. Pornhub says it has experienced a 77 per cent decline in UK traffic since the Act came into effect in July. “Ultimately, reducing porn consumption requires awareness, support and a willingness to develop healthier patterns of connection,” Dix said.
