The Good Food Guide has published its inaugural list of the 100 Best Pubs in Britain, and it makes for depressing reading for Birmingham . Not a single one of our city's boozers made it into the new list, which was topped by a Leeds city centre spot. The Good Food Guide has been steering readers to restauants around Britain since 1951 and it has previously celebrated Birmingham's foodie scene by highlighting neighbourhood eateries and the city's independent spots in its lists. The Old Wharf Inn, beside the canal in Stourbridge , made the number 33 spot but all other listed pubs were outside of our catchment. The Good Food Guide had invited readers to nominate their favourite pubs, with The Broad Chare in Newcastle winning the Readers' Choice Award. Announcing the top 100 list, which we've shared below in its entirety, Chloe Hamilton, editor of the Good Food Guide, said: "We went searching for the pubs that nail the drinking and dining side of the equation. "It turns out the harder you look the more you find, and they're not all hidden away in the Cotswolds. "The Highland Laddie – a Leeds city-centre slam dunk – is a very good case in point." Meanwhile, 12 of the top 100 pubs are based in London. No pubs in Manchester made the list either, with none in Edinburgh and just one in Cardiff. 1. The Highland Laddie, Leeds 2.
