The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Ending Explained: Belly Admits She Still Loves Conrad

One of TV’s highly debated love triangles, The Summer I Turned Pretty, has reached its long-awaited finale. The coming-of-age romantic drama, based on Jenny Han’s novel trilogy, wrapped up Season 3 with the episode titled, At Last, finally giving fans an answer on whom Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung) chooses between Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).
Spoilers Ahead!
Episode 11 of The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 began in Paris, where Conrad shows up on Belly’s doorstep just as she was starting to settle into her new life in the City of Love. He waits for her to open the door, but the rings go unanswered. That’s when he sees Belly riding a scooter with Benito (Fernando Cattori), her boyfriend in Paris. She gets down and takes off her helmet to reveal her birthday bob cut.
Conrad, on the other hand, downplays his visit, telling Belly that he was there for a conference in Brussels and casually remembered about her 22nd birthday. And he’s totally fine if she cannot make time for him. However, Belly, although hesitantly, agrees to spend the day with him till 8 PM, though her inner conflict is clear. “What the f–k are you doing. Just play tour guide for a few hours and then send him on his way,“ her voiceover says as she reapplies her red lipstick before taking off with Conrad.
Jeremiah Is Finally Over Belly
Meanwhile, back in Boston, Jeremiah navigates his budding career as a chef. He has been crashing at Denise’s (Isabella Briggs) apartment for six months. He tells her that Conrad is with Belly in Paris, and finally, he is okay with it. Denise, on the other hand, shares that she will be moving to San Fransico because she and Steven (Sean Kaufman) finally got seed funding for their video game. But the only problem is that he hasn’t told his girlfriend, Taylor (Rain Spencer), about his big move, but she overhears the conversation between Denise and Jeremiah.
In Paris, Belly and Conrad are touring the city, but suddenly, he asks her to show the city through her lens. And then Belly takes Conrad to a rooftop that gives a complete view of Paris. She tells him that the view reminds her of what he said about seeing the Pacific for the very first time. She then invites Conrad to accompany her to her birthday dinner with her friends.
At dinner, Belly cleared the air about her relationship with Benito, revealing that they had broken up before his trip to Mexico. “If anyone was the villain, it was me,” she reflects on her complicated relationship with the Fisher brothers. But Conrad doesn’t think of her like that. He tells her that he switched flights to bring a piece of Cousins to her. He gifts her a vial of sand from Cousins Beach.
Belly And Conrad Finally Confess Their Love For Each Other
After dinner, the two head out and walk along the water when Conrad admits that he thought Belly was hiding in Paris after what happened on the day of the now-cancelled wedding. But he is impressed that she has built a good life for herself in the city. While Belly admits that, she also tells him that she was guilty of breaking up his family. Conrad reveals that all is well between him and Jeremiah, and he even knows that he is in Paris, and wishes him well.
Under the Parisian full moon, the two slowly start dancing at Belly’s favourite spot, revisiting their fallout at prom and Susannah’s funeral. Belly tells Conrad that his letters kept her going in Paris, and the reason she took so long to write back to him was that she wanted to let go of the past first. And finally, after such a long wait, Belly and Conrad share a kiss, or rather kisses. But the mood changes in her apartment when Conrad tells her that he can skip the first day of his conference in Brussels to spend time with her.
Belly insists otherwise, telling him she isn’t going to change her plans because of him and asks him to take the next train. Then there was a heartfelt monologue by Conrad, where he finally, finally confessed his love for Belly without any hesitation. But she doesn’t reciprocate the same way, leading Conrad to leave to catch the next train, once again, with a broken heart.
After this came the heart of the episode. Following years of near misses, heartbreak, and self-discovery, Belly acknowledges her undying love for Conrad. In a romantic train scene, she declares, “I choose you, of my own free will. If there are infinite worlds, every version of me chooses you in every one of them.”
The episode also showed Steven and Taylor vowing to stay together. Adam finally says that he is proud of his younger son. And Denise and Jeremiah are kissing in the Cousins’ house. At the end of the episode, Conrad and Belly were seen going to the beach house, hand in hand, overlooking the waves. A scrapbook epilogue offers a glimpse of their life together in Paris.
