The six Liverpool games Jeremie Frimpong will miss as Arne Slot is dealt major injury blow

Liverpool have been dealt a major injury blow with Jeremie Frimpong facing around six weeks on the sidelines. That is according to the Daily Mail as an early December return is the most likely target for the Netherlands international, who arrived at the club in the summer from Bayer Leverkusen. Frimpong limped off after just 19 minutes of Liverpool’s 5-1 thrashing of Eintracht Frankfurt on October 22 and subsequently missed games against Brentford and Crystal Palace. Arne Slot will likely provide an update on Frimpong in the pre-Aston Villa press conference on Friday, though he did fear the 24-year-old would be out of action for a significant period. “Jeremie is not in a good place, what I mean by that is he is definitely not to going to play today, tomorrow or next week,” Slot said before his side’s 3-2 loss against Brentford last weekend. While the Dutch full-back is only a few months into his Liverpool career, this will be his second spell on the sidelines after missing wins over Newcastle and Arsenal earlier in the season with a hamstring injury. Considering Frimpong has already spent a week out, another five weeks on the sidelines should see him available for selection again during the first week of December. However, if the aforementioned timeframe is accurate then he will miss at least SIX more Liverpool games - against Aston Villa, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Nottingham Forest, PSV Eindhoven and West Ham. The home game against Sunderland on December 3, 2025 may be too early for a return as trips to Leeds and then to Inter Milan afterwards could be viewed as more realistic provided his recovery goes to plan. On a more positive note, Frimpong should be back to full fitness by the time Mohamed Salah is expected to depart for Africa Cup of Nations duty with Egypt. Signed to be the direct replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back, Frimpong has been used further forward as a right-winger this season and Slot has earmarked the Dutchman as an option to replace Salah during AFCON. “Yes, we definitely thought about that. We brought in Jeremie Frimpong because we think he can play as a right full-back but I also think and feel he can play as a right-winger,” Slot told reporters in August. “I, we, did think about the fact that we're going to miss Mo, I think as a maximum for six games – but that's quite a lot in the Premier League, especially if you see how well he did last season. “Signing Jeremie Frimpong was for multiple reasons but one of them was also that he could replace Mo if Mo is not there. There are other options for me to replace Mo with as well – but Jeremie is definitely one of them.”
