Frogwares has delayed The Sinking City 2 into 2026 following the ongoing Ukraine invasion alongside a shift towards survival horror elements. Of course, the team remains silent about when the game will actually arrive on the scene. The act of shifting gears toward survival horror seems to be the straw that broke the camel’s back, with lead game designer Alexander Gresko explaining that survival horror needs a “completely different kind of design thinking.” He also note that while the team have been fans of the genre, actually being the one doing it takes a lot of time and can slow development. “Switching to survival horror for the first time has been a whole new kind of challenge for us in itself, too. We’ve been making investigation adventures for more than twenty years, but survival horror asks for a completely different kind of design thinking. Tension, pacing, combat, etc. We’ve always loved the genre as fans, but once you start building it yourself, you realize how much you still have to do. It’s exciting, but it definitely makes development slower.” Not looking to make it all doom and gloom, though, it sounds like we’ll have gameplay for The Sinking City 2 on the way in coming months.
