The Rise of the Model Sons

There are many paths a son can take. He can go into the family business. He can strike out on his own. Or, for the sons of celebrities, he can be a model. Indeed, the latter may be one of the most popular careers of 2025. Behold: the model son. Like their more established model-daughter counterparts, some are descendants of the ’90s Supers themselves; others are the offspring of Oscar winners, rock stars, and sports legends. Vanity Fair explored the first crop of model sons hitting the runways nearly a decade ago. It was 2016, when then teenagers like Jaden Smith, Anwar Hadid, Presley Gerber, and Rafferty Law had first entered the industry. By 2018, Dolce & Gabbana would cast eight model sons to walk in their fall menswear show. Some from that first wave have kept up with the It-boy modeling life since then; others have followed different callings. But for every model son who’s left the industry, a few more have stepped up to join. (In 2019, W also logged the lesser-discussed microcosm of model dads, who are models who happen to be fathers; there are even model grandsons, such as Jack Nicholson’s grandson Duke, who appeared on Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! album cover, and Bob Dylan’s grandson Levi, who recently posed in sunglasses for Jacques Marie Mage and popped up in a Levi’s ad with Beyoncé.) Model sons tend to be multidisciplinary: Between film, music, art, fashion, and hot-sauce-making, they often have many pursuits to choose from. Modeling is perhaps the most natural, even innocuous, road for the child of a famous person to walk down. With their hereditary gifts of height and/or striking cheekbones, or an uncanny resemblance to a face we already recognize, the reasoning behind celeb kids’ presence on runways and in campaigns often lies somewhere between stunt casting and raw talent. Why not capitalize on one’s inherited beauty and glamour? Besides, the people love to see the results of a celebrity Punnett square. “There’s a general intrigue in people’s icons, and how the ‘icon’ is passed down to the next generation,” says publicist Alyssa Kane. Her client, Jackson Lewis Lee—son of Spike—recently walked in a runway show for another one of her clients, the preppy American brand J. Press. As Kane sees it, “There are two types of runway shows…. Some shows are about, you know, having a hanger go down the runway, because it’s about the clothes. And some brands are trying to educate or tell a story about who is the person that wears this clothing.” For the latter sort, she notes, you’ll want “people that are recognizable, and then, of course, traditional models too.” Casting director Anita Bitton, who has shepherded the careers of several model sons—including Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher’s lookalike boys, Lennon and Gene—says it helps, from a casting perspective, that model sons are accessible, as they tend to congregate in fashionable cities like London, Paris, or New York, and easy to spot, because “these kids grow up to look just like their parents.” They also have a built-in level of comfort with the job—especially if they grew up going to flashy events or being photographed by paparazzi, they’re used to being in front of cameras. (Plus, she adds, as the business of men’s fashion has grown, so too has “our interest in men as fashionable beings.”) “To be a male model,” says Bitton, “there are sort of requirements if you’re gonna work every day and make it a living—you have to be a particular size, you have to be willing to put yourself out there—but I feel like for the Lennons and the Romeo Beckhams of the world, they’re really stylish, they’re really having fun, and they have that sort of access to it.” Indeed, according to Bitton, what really sets the model sons apart from their more striving peers is their relaxed, even blasé demeanors. They have an ease to them, like “they don’t want it, do you know what I mean? And it makes them feel a bit cool.” Here, we’ve cataloged the emerging and established swath of working model sons as well as their career milestones (such as notable campaigns or runway appearances), in addition to other money moves and hobbies outside the modeling world. There are 30 total, plus one bonus model nephew. As for why we can’t get enough of them on the runways? Kane has a theory: “It just kind of helps bring your heroes closer to you through their children.” David Banda Born: September 24, 2005 (age 20) Notable kin: Madonna (mother; pop icon), Guy Ritchie (father; filmmaker), Lourdes Leon (sister; model and musician) Model milestones: David made his runway debut at Off-White’s spring 2025 show at New York Fashion Week last year. Extracurricular pursuits: He’s also a musician and guitarist who performs under the name Senzacacona, and he’s played both on tour with his mom and in his birth country of Malawi. In 2022, he featured in a holiday campaign for his step-aunt Kim Kardashian’s brand, Skims. Extracurricular pursuits: In 2022, he co-designed a genderless fashion collection for boohooMan; at the time, he told Teen Vogue, “However you want to express yourself, you should. I paint my nails. I wear glittery shirts. When I get dressed every day, I don’t have guidelines.” Following in his rock star dad’s footsteps, he has also released music with a few of Travis’s collaborators (he appeared alongside Gunna and Young Thug on the 2022 Machine Gun Kelly track “Die in California”) and on his own under the Warner imprint Elektra Records. His biggest solo song to date is called “Friends With Your Ex,” which was reportedly written about Landon’s then girlfriend, TikTok star Charli D’Amelio, and her ex-boyfriend, TikTok star Chase “Lil Huddy” Hudson. Brooklyn Peltz Beckham Born: March 4, 1999 (age 26) Notable kin: David Beckham (father; soccer icon), Victoria Beckham (mother; fashion designer and former Spice Girl), Nicola Peltz Beckham (wife; actor, filmmaker, and model), Romeo Beckham (brother; model and former soccer player, see below), Cruz Beckham (brother; musician) Model milestones: As the eldest of the Beckham brood, Brooklyn kicked off his modeling career with his first magazine cover at age 15; since then, he’s posed for GQ and done commercial work for sportswear brands such as Reserved and Superdry. This year, he starred in campaigns for Moncler and Express alongside his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham. Extracurricular pursuits: As a teen, Brooklyn was into photography; at 16, he shot a Burberry Brit campaign and, at 18, released a photo book called What I See (which included a memorable picture of an elephant). He later took up cooking, and, in keeping with his culinary interests, released his own hot sauce, Cloud23, last year. In his free time, as he told GQ recently, he loves “going to the park and just kicking the ball ’round.” Romeo Beckham Born: September 1, 2002 (age 23) Notable kin: David Beckham (father; soccer icon), Victoria Beckham (mother; fashion designer and former Spice Girl), Brooklyn Peltz Beckham (brother; chef personality and model, see above), Cruz Beckham (brother; musician) Model milestones: The middle Beckham son kicked off his modeling career at 10 years old, when he posed alongside models Cara Delevingne and Edie Campbell in a Burberry spring 2013 campaign photographed by Mario Testino. By the time he was 18, he appeared in ads for Saint Laurent’s fall 2021 collection and on his first solo cover for L’Uomo Vogue. In 2024, he made his incognito runway debut for Demna’s Balenciaga, and since then has walked for Versace and H&M. He’s also starred in campaigns for Champion and Balenciaga, and is repped by IMG. Extracurricular pursuits: He previously followed in his dad’s pro soccer footsteps, playing forward for the reserve team of Inter Miami (of which David Beckham is a co-owner) from 2021 to 2023 before transferring to Brentford FC’s B team, which he purportedly quit to focus on modeling. You’re constructing and destroying yourself.” Paris Brosnan Born: February 27, 2001 (age 24) Notable kin: Pierce Brosnan (father; actor and former Bond); Keely Shaye Smith (mother; journalist), Dylan Brosnan (brother; model and musician, see above) Model milestones: At 16, Paris walked in his first runway show for Dolce & Gabbana; he’s also walked for Moschino and Balmain. Extracurricular pursuits: Leland was already sharing videos of himself playing guitar online when a clip comparing him to Sadie Sink, the redheaded Stranger Things actor who also played Brendan Fraser’s onscreen daughter in The Whale, went viral on TikTok two years ago. “Music is my main passion, but fashion and modeling is more of a physical expression. The music is more emotional,” he told GQ in 2023. Nowadays, Leland plays in a hard rock band called Hunter Road, who once released a song called “Nepotism Baby.” It’s very guitar-forward! He posed for a Celine ad in 2022 and, earlier this year, posed alongside his family in a campaign for Vuori. He’s repped by DNA. He models for major brands too, including Burberry and H&M. Over the past few seasons, he’s become a runway regular for the brooding Belgian label Ann Demeulemeester. He’s repped by the Kate Moss Agency, which makes sense given that the ’90s supermodel and her lookalike daughter, model Lila Moss, are family friends. In September, Columbia Sportswear named him an official brand ambassador. Extracurricular pursuits: As an heir to an Australian zookeeping dynasty, Robert has kept up with the family conservationist/TV personality biz, and has also taken up wildlife photography. Last year, he appeared in an editorial for Vogue Portugal. Extracurricular pursuits: In 2023, Brandon coproduced Pamela, a Love Story, a Netflix documentary about his mom, Pamela Anderson, and has since helped to shepherd her career renaissance over the last few years. “Two years ago, I made a decision. I wanted the world to truly see my mom. She’s an icon who helped shape a generation, but it was about time she shaped her own narrative,” he wrote on Instagram in 2023. Extracurricular pursuits: Like his pops, Henry is also big into music. “I love labbing out on production software with my dad,” he told GQ in August. “My dad’s very into messing with guitar pedals, and I watch him for hours.” His music tastes contain multitudes, ranging from Rihanna and Future to Steely Dan and Metallica. Jaden Smith Born: July 8, 1998 (age 27) Notable kin: Will Smith (father; actor), Jada Pinkett Smith (mother; actor), Willow Smith (sister; musician and model) Model milestones: The world is Jaden’s catwalk. Though he spends more time attending fashion shows these days, Jaden is sort of the Ur-Model Son, and he still manages to make every front-row appearance into its own runway of sorts. He’s also a stalwart face for advertising campaigns, posing for Louis Vuitton, Levi’s, and Samsung. Extracurricular pursuits: An exemplar multihyphenate, Jaden is a musician, actor, designer, and performance artist of many mediums. A few examples: When Jaden was still a teenager in 2015, he and his dad co-launched Just Water, an environmentally conscious water company that packages H2O in rectangular recycled-paper cartons. (That same year, Jaden told GQ that he feels “like it’s an honor, actually, for people to think I’m crazy. Because they thought Galileo was crazy too, you know what I’m saying? I don’t think I’m as revolutionary as Galileo, but I don’t think I’m not as revolutionary as Galileo.”) He once helmed a streetwear brand/creative collective called MSFTS, which counted his high-school girlfriend Kylie Jenner as a member. Extracurricular pursuits: According to an interview with Pause magazine, Julez likes to chime in when his musically inclined friends are in the studio: “I feel like I have a little bit of an advantage when it comes to hearing a hit and hearing the sound,” he said. He’s also gearing up to launch his own clothing line, and cites Virgil Abloh, Grace Wales Bonner, ’06-’07-era Pharrell, and his mom as his biggest fashion inspirations. His mom, Kelly Turlington Burns, is married to Brian Burns, whose brother, the actor Edward Burns, is married to Kelly’s sister, ’90s supermodel Christy Turlington—whom James strongly resembles. Now that’s a family tree! But he’s also one of the most prolific models of this bunch, having walked many high-profile runways for Ralph Lauren, Armani, Tom Ford, Louis Vuitton, and more. Signed to IMG, he's a two-time nominee for the Models.com Model of the Year award. Extracurricular pursuits: Per an interview with The Rakish Gent, James was a student athlete and drafted to the Los Angeles Dodgers minor leagues before he pursued modeling. “I studied at UC Santa Barbara where I was drafted by the Dodgers after two years. I was a pitcher in their development system for three years,” he said. “Arm injuries led to a shortened career, and I thought I would give the world of fashion a try.”
