nike-shox-z-1 (1) It’s been a minute since I’ve truly fixated on a sneaker, and not just any sneaker, but one that earns the title of a dream pair. The last time that happened, it was with the Martine Rose x Nike Shox MR4: a subversive, square-toed marvel that turned heads and split opinions. That hybrid heel pump-meets-runway silhouette still holds its grailed status in my books — slightly avant-garde, bizarrely reminiscent of a pointe shoe, and unmistakably Martine Rose. Now, Nike has revisited that energy with the newly unveiled Shox Z, a design that feels like a spiritual successor: sleeker, more refined, and tuned for the everyday. The Shox Z carries the same DNA that made the early-aughts Shox line worthy of a rerun. But this time, the design language leans toward the contemporary: smoother lines, muted tones, and a sculpted profile that focuses on technology-first and comfort rather than shock-value. nike-shox-z-aryna-sabalenka-4 While the Martine Rose collaboration created space for a provocative sneaker with its aggressive form, the Shox Z tempers that spirit with a subtler, lifestyle-oriented approach. The lower, more flexible fit and softer structure make it a sneaker designed not just for performance, but for wearability and sustainability. Its sculpted silhouette hides a playful detail, an exposed, colorful midsole powered by Nike’s signature Shox technology, creating a contrast between refinement and energy of the new model. nike-shox-z-aryna-sabalenka-5 MORE FOR YOU In the campaign, Aryna Sabalenka, tennis star and reigning US Open champion, speaks to that energy with a black matching set and the black and red colorway of the Shox Z. But for her US Open trophy acceptance, she did the color-opposite, donning an all-white Nike fit and the Shox Z in a crisp white colorway. “The Shox Z makes me feel super powerful and high-fashion,” she says. “When I’m off the court, I like to mix and match more elevated pieces in my wardrobe. The Shox Z takes my outfits to the next level — and they look good with everything.” Behind the design, Carlos Escobar, Nike’s lead designer on the project, explains the vision: “In designing the Nike Shox Z, we wanted to create a new look that can be worn to a party or around town, helping athletes feel comfortable and expressive while navigating different spaces, whether they’re low-key and casual or a bit more elegant,” he says. “This silhouette is cool, it’s relaxed, it’s vibrant, all without trying too hard to be sporty or stylish, and it makes a great addition to any closet.” nike-shox-z-12 (1) And so far, the feedback is as expected. Many took to X and Reddit on sneaker forums to show their approval of the shoe. One X user writing, "NIKE’s new release "SHOX Z" is really good after all. This perfect high-tech vibe . The new brown color is cute too." The The Nike Shox Z is now available in China at nike.com and select retail partners. The silhouette will launch globally throughout the upcoming season for $135.
