What Happened: So, get this – Apple is finally caving. After years of Apple telling us we don’t want touchscreens on laptops – remember Steve Jobs famously said “touch surfaces don’t want to be vertical”? – they’re apparently building one anyway. According to Mark Gurman over at Bloomberg, Apple is working on a totally redesigned MacBook Pro that will have a touchscreen. The big reveal is expected sometime in late 2026 or early 2027. This isn’t just a minor update; it’s a full-on overhaul. We’re talking a thinner and lighter body, a brand-new M6 chip, and a gorgeous OLED display (the same rich, inky-black tech from the iPhone and iPad Pro). They’re also apparently swapping the “notch” for a “Dynamic Island” hole-punch camera, just like on the new iPhones. And they’ve apparently already thought about the biggest problem with touch-screen laptops: screen wobble. The report says they’ve engineered a much stronger hinge to keep the display from flopping around every time you poke it. Why Is This Important: You have to understand, this is a massive deal. It’s a complete 180-degree turn for Apple. For over a decade, their official stance has been, “If you want to touch a screen, buy an iPad.” That’s it. But let’s be real – every other high-end laptop from Dell, Microsoft, and the rest has had touchscreens for ages. Apple’s finally realising they can’t just ignore it. It’s also a big strategic move. Mac sales could use a jolt of excitement, and a new, “best-of-both-worlds” MacBook Pro that blends Mac power with iPad-style touch could create a whole new “super-premium” category that a lot of creative pros would probably drool over. Why Should I Care: So, what does this mean for you? This is the laptop a lot of us have been dreaming of. You get the full power of macOS with a real keyboard and trackpad, but you can also just… reach up and tap the screen. With an M6 chip and that stunning OLED screen, this thing is going to be an absolute monster (at least that’s what we hope). But, yes… you better start saving. All that new tech, especially that big, beautiful OLED screen, is not going to be cheap. Don’t be shocked if these new models cost several hundred bucks more than the already-expensive ones we have now (which, as a reminder, start at two grand). But here’s the catch: those are just going to be speed bumps. They’ll have the exact same body and design as the one from 2021. So, if you want the new, thin, touchscreen hotness, you’ll have to wait for the M6 models at the end of 2026 or early 2027. (And if you’re holding out for Face ID on a Mac?
