‘‘The Just and Sustainable Energy Transition’’ Conference – 24 to 25 September – launched today

‘‘The Just and Sustainable Energy Transition’’ Conference (24-25 September) was launched at a leading Tripoli hotel today. Headed by the Minister of Oil and Gas, Khalifa Abdel Sadig, UNDP Libya head Sophie Kemkhadze, and EU Delegation head Nicola Orlando, it was also attended by several Ambassadors to Libya.
The event is dedicated to advancing responsible business practices and a just energy transition within Libya’s oil and gas sector. It builds on the momentum from Libya’s first Conference on Business and Human Rights.
The UNDP says this conference, co-organized with the Ministry of Oil and Gas and the European Union delegation in Libya, is a timely platform for national and international experts to address critical issues facing the industry in Libya.
The Ministry of Oil says the event is a national platform to promote dialogue on sustainable development, renewable energy, and environmental protection, in line with Libya’s strategic priorities.
Opening the event, Oil and Gas Minister Abdel Sadig said he hoped the focused panel discussions over the two days would come up with practical recommendations that can be interpreted on the ground.
UNDP Libya head Kemkhadze said oil is a gateway and platform to greaner and more just future. The EU Ambassador Orlando said the EU stands with Libya in its decision to invest in the sector. Italy’s Ambassador Alberini welcomed the initiative and said Italy stands ready as a partner.
