HSE inspections revealed widespread shortcomings in training, equipment maintenance, and the correct use of hearing protection. Alarmingly, 95% of employers do not check that staff can hear critical safety warnings. Beyond the immediate risk of hearing loss, these gaps are increasingly linked to stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges. The session will feature Paul Delderfield, Principal Specialist Inspector (Noise and Vibration) at the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), who will deliver a presentation on practical approaches to managing noise risks in the workplace. Participants will also gain insight into their legal responsibilities, learn how to implement effective hearing protection, and explore the often-overlooked connection between hearing loss and mental wellbeing. “Noise at work is more than a nuisance - it’s a health risk that can have long-term consequences for both hearing and mental health,” said Marisa Firkins, BHSEA Chair. “This event will help businesses take meaningful steps to protect their employees while closing critical compliance gaps.” For more information about the event or to book your place, please contact 07881 290238 or email secretary@bhsea.org.uk
