The United States has lifted the visa limitations that were previously placed on Ghana, according to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs. Ghanaians can now apply for five-year multiple-entry visas and other improved consular privileges, according to a post made by Mr. Ablakwa on his X account. “Earlier today, at a bilateral discussion on the fringes of the UN General Assembly, US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker directly informed me of this positive news. He wrote, “I am extremely happy that months of intense diplomatic negotiations have produced a favourable result.” In July of this year, the United States restricted travellers from Ghana and a number of other nations to three-month, single-entry visas. According to US authorities, Ghana’s high rates of visa overstays, especially among students, served as justification for the move. The reversal, according to Mr. Ablakwa, signifies the return to “healthier and stronger Ghana-USA relations.”
