EXCLUSIVE: The Coven (Terrifier 3) has acquired world sales rights to The Outer Threat, a sci-fi thriller written and directed by William Woods and starring Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians), Mark O’Brien (Nuremberg), and William Fichtner (Contact). The Coven will introduce the project to international buyers at the American Film Market. The Outer Threat follows an astrophysicist who, after making a groundbreaking extraterrestrial discovery, is forced to flee with his family from their home — pursued through the countryside by a relentless and anonymous assailant. As their flight unfolds, the line between cosmic revelation and human paranoia blurs, leading to a tense and emotional confrontation that challenges the boundaries of understanding, science, and survival. Producers of the film are Maddy Falle, Allison White, and Albert Shin. The film is being executive produced by Rob McGillivray, Ben Stranahan, Tom Spriggs, John Hansen III, Patrick Vipond, Jared Blaichman, Jonah Blaichman, and Randall Okita. “Tension in film often works best when it reflects an internal anxiety about the future of our changing world, even when it seems there is little we can do to control or affect our own futures,” Woods explained in a statement. “I wanted to reflect a similar tension in The Outer Threat and explored a juxtaposition between the love we find in shared interpersonal moments and the dread of an increasingly unpredictable future.” Anelle Dehghani, of The Coven, added: “As technology blurs the line between human and machine, stories like this feel less like science fiction—and more like a glimpse of tomorrow.” The Outer Threat is currently in post-production, with completion slated for early 2026. VVS Films will distribute the film theatrically in Canada.
