He might be putting up a tough front on The Celebrity Traitors right now, but Joe Marler once got fully dragged up and looked completely different. The former England rugby player, 35, is one of the cast members of the first series of The Celebrity Traitors. At the time of writing he’s still in the game as a ‘Faithful’ and is hot on the case of one ‘Traitor’, Jonathan Ross. In the last episode (Thursday 23 October), Marler was confronted at the roundtable over his demeanour and approach to the game, being called “cocky” by other contestants. But it’s not Marler’s first reality TV show. In 2022, he appeared on ITV’s Queens for the Night, which saw celebrities turned into (mostly) glamorous drag queens in a one-night only type event. @marcosgmakeup Joe Marler as a very FAITHFUL Drag Queen ❤️ . #traitor #traitors #fyp #makeup #viral ♬ original sound – Missy Elliott Marler competed alongside Adam Woodyatt, George Shelley, Chris Hughes, Mr Motivator, and Simon Gregson with each celebrity being mentored by a different drag queen. Blu Hydrangea was Marler’s mentor while Kitty Scott Claus, Asttina Mandella, Myra DuBois, La Voix, and Margo Marshall mentored the others. Speaking to ITV at the time, Marler explained his reasoning for getting involved in the show. As reported by The Independent, he said, “I want to try something different, get out of my comfort zone and why not try drag. It’s great fun.” Over the course of the episode Marler was transformed into the stunning Trixie Turnover and gave a magical performance. Sadly, he was eliminated, with Gregson as Bidet Bardot being crowned the winner. @thingspeoplepod @Joe Marler reacts to his appearance on #QueensForTheNight 💄 #joemarler #drag #dragqueen #rugby #ans ♬ original sound – Joe Marler's Things People Do Reflecting on his time as Trixie Turnover on his Things People Do podcast in 2022, which he hosts with his friend Tom Fordyce, Marler said it was “f***ing ridiculous.” He then said: “I’ll be honest, I was actually really nervous and s***ing it before it was coming out because I was like, ‘Oh, god. This is just going to be cringe and what have I done?’ But then I sort of tried to remind myself of actually how much fun I had with Blu Hydrangea and the other people that were on the show.” Marler added: “It was just a laugh, mate. It was just something different.” It seems like Marler had a good time and there’s certainly evidence to show him enjoying his life as Trixie Turnover.
