PTC News Desk: India and China are all set to resume direct flights starting today, after a gap of five years. The development was confirmed on Sunday by Yu Jing, spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in India. “Direct flights between China and India are now a reality,” Yu wrote on X.Earlier this month, IndiGo announced that it would be among the first airlines to resume operations between India and China following the suspension caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. In a press release issued on October 2, the airline said it would begin daily nonstop flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou from October 26, 2025, using Airbus A320neo aircraft. IndiGo also indicated plans to launch direct flights between Delhi and Guangzhou, pending necessary regulatory approvals.On October 11, IndiGo confirmed that the Delhi–Guangzhou service would commence on November 10, marking another major step in restoring air connectivity between the two nations.Direct flights between China and India are now a reality. ✈️ Kolkata → Guangzhou launches today.Shanghai ↔ New Delhi starts Nov 9, flying 3 times a week. pic.twitter.com/rxa0ag4jFd— Yu Jing (@ChinaSpox_India) October 26, 2025 The airline said the new routes are expected to play a crucial role in revitalising trade, tourism, and business relations that had suffered disruptions in recent years.Direct flights between India and China had been suspended since the onset of the pandemic and the deadly Galwan Valley clash in June 2020 — one of the most serious border conflicts in decades. Bilateral relations remained strained until October 2024, when both countries reached an agreement on patrolling protocols along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), a move widely viewed as a breakthrough in reducing border tensions.
