TG election officials geared up for SIR if ECI announces schedule

The State election authority, Chief Electoral Officer, is gearing up for conducting special intensive revision of electoral rolls as and when the Election Commission of India announces the schedule.

Though a final date for the SIR has not been fixed yet, the CEO is understood to have asked the officials concerned to be ready for the exercise. Conduct of the SIR was one of the major issues that figured during the meeting of the CEO’s held by the ECI on September 10 & 11. Odisha CEO had announced the decision to take up intensive revision of the electoral rolls across the State last month and several other States, including Telangana, are likely to follow suit in the next few weeks.

The election officials are anticipating that the SIR, if the schedule is finalised, is likely to be announced with January 1, 2026 as the qualifying date. Officials are confident that the election authority will have more than two months time for taking up the exercise.

SIR, if mandated by the ECI, could be taken up along with the annual special summary revision of the electoral rolls, exercise for which will commence next month with the publication of the draft electoral rolls.
