Will Teyana Taylor become the first Oscar nominee who was also on MTV’s My Super Sweet Sixteen? The One Battle After Another actress was featured in a 2007 episode of the series, but don’t mistake her for a spoiled birthday girl. “I want to clear this up,” Taylor told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve seen people saying I’m a … what’s it called? A nee-po baby? Nepo baby! I’ve seen all types of stuff, like I had this rich Chinese dad or a producer dad. I was living on 144th and Seventh Avenue, and my single mom was working her ass off in corporate America to provide for me. She wanted me to have a nice party!” At the packed event, Taylor receives both a blinged-out bicycle and a Range Rover as her gifts. Plus, Pharrell Williams makes a cameo appearance to congratulate her on the big day; she was signed to the Neptunes’ Star Trak Entertainment imprint. The clip is trademark Taylor. She enters by coming out as a doll in a box, then hits a full dance routine to “Jump Around,” by House of Pain. “My dance was dope, everybody was lovin’ it,” the 16-year-old, who has braces and her trademark New York rasp, says. Of course everybody was loving it — when this episode was filmed, Taylor had already choreographed a full Beyoncé video, “Ring the Alarm,” after being contacted to teach Bey the chicken noodle soup dance popularized in New York high schools. If this is what Taylor’s mom did for her, the singer better start planning for her daughter Junie now. Six years should be enough to top it.
