Texas Surges Ahead in National Job Growth, Sets Employment Record Under Governor Abbott's Leadership

The Lone Star State is breaking records in the job market, leading the nation in employment growth over the past year. Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that the state has outpaced all others with a spike of 195,600 nonfarm jobs from August 2024 to August 2025. This accomplishment sets Texas apart, not only in monthly gains but also in breaking records for overall employment numbers, according to a recent press release from the Office of the Texas Governor.

In a statement, Governor Abbott highlighted, “Texas is America’s jobs leader,” the Office of the Texas Governor noted, touting the state’s business-friendly environment and skilled labor force as key drivers of this success. Looking at the figures, Texas now has the largest labor force in its history, employing over 15 million people. Notably, the number of Texans working, including those who are self-employed, reached a striking 15,213,500. Focused on maintaining this growth, Abbott referenced the state’s commitment to minimizing bureaucratic interference and nurturing both large and small businesses.

Digging into the numbers, the August labor market data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Texas Workforce Commission reflect strong statewide progress. Texas reached a new pinnacle of total nonfarm jobs at 14,347,700, having added 17,600 positions over the month—more than any other state. Adding contrast to this achievement, the state’s annual job growth rate surpassed the national average by 0.5%.

Earlier in the week, further reaffirming the state’s pro-growth stance, Abbott appointed the new Director of the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office (TREO). This office’s mission, to streamline regulations and ease the burdens on Texans, dovetails seamlessly with the Governor’s economic agenda. He also put his signature to ceremonial bills, creating the promise of even more jobs by expanding career and technical education in the future for Texas students in House Bill 20 and House Bill 120, per the Office of the Texas Governor.
