TEWU declares indefinite strike effective September 19

The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union of TUC (Ghana) has declared an indefinite nationwide strike effective Friday, September 19, 2025.

According to the TUC, the indefinite strike comes as a result of the government’s failure to review their conditions of service for the past 8 years.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, September 19, 2025, the General Secretary of the union, King James Azortibah directed members to withdraw their services until their demands are met.

The Union stated that the strike affects all its members including the non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service, public and technical universities, staff of the Ghana Library Authority and the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board.

“Effective today, the 19th day of September, 2025, the TEWU of the TUC hereby declares a nationwide strike with immediate effect….” he declared.

“After this declaration, across the country, we have directed all to stay away from work until further notice,” Azortibah added.
