The mystery is solved as to what Tesla was preparing to show this week, and those who guessed at a more economic model turned out to be correct. Tesla unveiled two new electric vehicles specced for affordability: The Tesla Model Y Standard and Model 3 Standard. Both are priced under $40,000 USD without extras and represent the most low-priced Tesla options currently available from the company.
Tesla did a full reveal of the Model Y Standard and Model 3 Standard via its social media today. Following a teaser over the weekend, many felt that this reveal would be either the Roadster 2.0 or a more affordable model. Musk himself had teased both theories repeatedly, but it was an economic Tesla EV’s time to shine today. The Model 3 and Model Y Standard both boast an estimated 321-mile range on full charge, Tesla assisted driving technology, integrated entertainment system with Tesla Arcade, Tesla Theater, access to Grok AI, and priced at $36,990 for the Model 3 and $39,990 for the Model Y without extras.

The promise of a mass market and affordable Tesla has been hanging overhead for quite a while now, and especially since the supposed “Redwood” project that was announced in 2024 promised delivery before the end of this year. Sure enough, product pages for the Model 3 Standard and Model Y Standard can be pre-ordered now and promise a delivery sometime between November 2025 and December 2025, meaning Tesla intends to meet its goal on getting mass market models out the door and into the hands of its customers before the year ends.
It seems those waiting on news for the Roadster 2.0 are out of luck this week, but updates on that should also be expected as the Model 3 and Model Y Standard prep for launch at the end of 2025. Stay tuned to the Tesla topic for more news and coverage.
