Tesco has added a new sweet treat to its meal deal (Picture: Getty Images) Whether you’re a prawn cocktail crisp kind of person or you stand by the fact that there’s nothing better than a BLT, your meal deal choices can reveal a fair amount about you. Now, Tesco has levelled up its game with a change to its lunchtime offering by adding a new sweet treat to the mix – all for the price of £3.85 (if you’ve got a Clubcard, that is). Behold: the Tim Tam era. The humble snack – closely associated with the famous Tim Tam slam, which involves biting off a chunk from both ends and then slurping tea through the remains – first made the journey over to UK shores last year. Australians had been enjoying the sweet treat since 1964, when it was introduced by Arnott’s, and now, we Brits can either enjoy the biscuit as part of our lunchtime line-up or save it for a 3pm pick-me-up. Outside of the meal deal, the Tim Tam Original – now in a twin pack format – will retail for £1 exclusively inside Tesco Express stores. A new Tim Tam era is upon us (Picture: Arnott’s) ‘Tim Tam has proven to be incredibly popular in the UK since our launch last year, and the demand to have Tim Tam in an on-the-go format has been strong,’ Amber Dutkiewicz, Tim Tam market development manager UK&I, said of the launch. ‘We’re excited to offer the opportunity to enjoy Tim Tam in a travel-friendly, snack-sized two-biscuit pack format that is also available in the iconic Tesco Meal Deal.’ Hailed by some as ‘better than Penguins,’ sweet-toothed Brits have certainly taken to the Tim Tam like a bee to honey. ‘I am addicted to them. So much so that I go to a big Tesco that’s quite out of the way just to get them,’ one Reddit user previously posted in the r/AskUK Subreddit. ‘I have always seen Aussies raving about Tim Tams, talking about how much better than Penguins they are, now I understand why. I’ve found they have a much more milky/creamy flavour.’ Tim Tams have been an Australian classic since their 1964 launch (Picture: Arnott’s) Meanwhile, another chocolate devotee described them as ‘fabulous,’ adding that they ‘always had a ready supply of them’ sent over by countless family members living in Australia. ‘Compared to a Penguin I felt they had a better biscuit, better filling and better variety of flavours,’ they penned, while another fan described the gluten-free alternatives as ‘melt in your mouth’ material. Earlier this year, Brits were further treated to yet another flavour: Sweet & Salty Tim Tam biscuits – a unique product inspired by another iconic Australian snack. Those who can’t choose between sweet and savoury foods won’t have to as these combine the classic Tim Tam fillings with a savoury cracker nestled between the layers. This spin-off was inspired by Jatz biscuits, also made by Arnott’s, which look rather similar to a Ritz biscuit. Elsewhere, the holy Tim Tam isn’t the addition Tesco has treated its meal deal fans to of late. In addition to your choice of sandwich, pasta pot or salad for a main, you can now swap your packet of crisps for a side of what some believe to be the ‘food of the gods.’ Yes, Pot Noodles. The instant noodle snack food was added to the supermarket’s offering in March, but there’s a bit of a catch – it’s only available in selected stores across the UK, and it’s only one specific flavour you can get: Chicken & Mushroom.
