Tesco has become the first UK supermarket to stock 'crucial' NHS health tests. Tesco shoppers can now pick up clinical-grade health tests alongside their weekly shop, the UK's largest supermarket and grocer has confirmed. Tesco has become the first UK supermarket to stock lab-verified testing kits nationwide. It has launched professional medical tests for fertility, testosterone, and diabetes. Each kit costs £40 and promises results within 48 hours. "The partnership is designed to remove barriers, build awareness, and encourage more proactive management of common health concerns such as hormone balance, fertility and blood sugar levels," the supermarket stated. The partnership removes traditional barriers that stop people from getting tested, whether that's time, cost, or simply not knowing where to start. Co-founder of Newfoundland Diagnostics, Frederick Manduca, commented: "This marks an exciting time for the brand and UK consumers, as we continue to make self-diagnostics easily accessible and offer a solution to preventative care, acknowledging a healthcare system that’s being continually pushed to its limits. Fellow co-founder, Michael Hodnett, added: "With an estimated 5.8million people in the UK living with diabetes and plenty more going undiagnosed, these tests play a crucial role in early detection and management, while testosterone testing and women's fertility evaluations are essential, offering valuable insights that can (if necessary) guide effective treatment plans and improve overall well-being." At Tesco, community pharmacists can supply a specific range of prescription and over-the-counter medicines for these common infections, including antibiotics (where clinically appropriate), creams, nasal sprays, ear drops, and antivirals (for shingles, where clinically appropriate). You can be referred to the service by a healthcare professional (for example NHS 111 or GP surgery). You can also refer yourself for advice and treatment for the 7 common infections listed above. On its Tesco Pharmacy website, the supermarket says: "Come in-store and talk to one of our pharmacists. All pharmacist consultations will be confidential and take place in one of our private consultation rooms."
