The Youth Wing, Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) has called on Nigerian government not to prevent any nation or international allies from assisting the country in the fight against terrorism National secretary YOWICAN Hon. Bako Elijah made the call in a statement issued to newsmen in Jos after the National Youth Fellowship Convention held at Donga LGA of Taraba State. YOWICAN maintained that if America says it will stand against terrorism, why are we shouting or protesting against it? He added that it is “what we’ve been praying for, so that God will raise voices and nations to defend the defenseless. “ The issue is not about foreign interference; it is about truth and justice — the same values upon which any just society must stand.” YOWICAN lamented that political leaders in the country have turned the fight against insecurity into a political enterprise — trading the lives of innocent citizens for political convenience stressing that the reality is that Nigerian leaders have chosen politics over the people they governed. He maintained that they have reduced human lives to statistics and headlines, stressing that until they stop politicising everything, especially matters of life and death, Nigeria will continue to sink deeper into moral and social decay. “These terrorists, bandits, or jihadist militias are not faceless. They are being covered and supported to execute the agenda of their paymasters. How can we continue like this as a nation?” According to YOWICAN, the evidence of killing in Nigeria is overwhelming stressing that from Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa,Taraba Kaduna, Adamawa and Kwara states Christian communities have been repeatedly attacked. Hon. Elijah further argued that “We sing the national anthem yet act in direct contradiction to its values of peace, unity, and justice.” The Christian youths also demanded that the government of President Bola Tinubu should immediately arrest and prosecute the controversial Islamic clerics Yahaya Gingril and Sheikh Gumi Ahmed for their provocative statements and inhuman pronouncements against Christian faithful. YOWICAN further urged the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency remove the National Security Adviser (NSA) Malam Nuhu Ribadu because according to them, he has failed. “We, the Christian youth in Nigeria, reaffirm our commitment to peaceful coexistence, justice, and unity. We shall continue to speak the truth in love and demand accountability from those in authority.” They also vowed to continue to support the Federal Government of Nigeria in whatever capacity to ensure that sanity is restored and justice prevail across all parts of the nation. The Christian youths further urged Nigerian leaders to remember that power is transient but posterity is eternal adding that let history record that when evil thrived, the Church did not keep quiet. The national secretary also maintained that, they want the world to know that the youth of the Christian Association of Nigeria stood for righteousness, unity, and peace even in the darkest hour.
