Terrie McEvoy shares warning as beloved dog falls seriously ill after beach walk

Social media star Terrie McEvoy has shared a warning to fellow dog owners, as her beloved dog Jake fell seriously ill earlier this week. She and her husband David Fitzpatrick, who recently welcomed their second child, said that their dog Jake, a Patterdale Terrier mix that they adopted ion 2020, has been in and out of veterinary hospitals since becoming unwell. The couple said that their dog picked up a parasite on the beach, which caused severe gastroenteritis and an Illeus in the poor pup. He gave us the fright of our lives on Tuesday evening and has been in and out of veterinary hospitals on IVs and having tests all week," Terrie said via Instagram. “Turns out he had severe gastroenteritis and an Illeus. We think he drank dirty water on the beach on Sunday so it may have been that?” “All is resolved now thank god! But we’ve both been sick with worry over him,” she added, before thanking their local vets for caring for Jake." David said that since posting about Jake's illness, they have received messages from people from the same area of Dublin who have seen their dogs fall ill for the same issue. “As we all know Jake’s favourite thing to do is spend his days running up and down the beach but unfortunately this recent beach walk landed him into the A&E hospital after picking up a really bad parasite,” he wrote. “After sharing this we’ve been swamped with messages that other people have had similar issues around the Donabate, Portrane beach areas." "“Don’t take any chances. If your dog shows any symptoms of gastroenteritis. Take them to be seen immediately." "Unfortunately we didn’t know what was going on at the time so Jake has been very unwell and needed to spend time in hospital going through many different tests,” he added. Jake was initially a foster dog for the couple, who then decided to adopt him. Speaking to RSVP Magazine previously, Terrie said that back in 2020, adopting Jake made her and David fell like a family. Speaking about the importance of adopting, she said: "There are an incredible amount of puppy farms in Ireland that abuse dogs for profit. It has become such a huge problem that I’ve been trying to raise awareness about for a number of years on my channel." "I always knew I would foster or adopt when the time was right as there’s also so many beautiful dogs in shelters and pounds across Ireland that need homes. Terrie and David recently celebrated six years of marriage, and have two children together.
