Tenant Finds Dead Cockroaches in Apartment, Horror at Landlord's Solution

After moving into a new apartment, a tenant opened the kitchen cabinets to put away their belongings—what they found inside has left internet users horrified. In a now-viral Reddit post, shared on Wednesday under the username @Doodleyfish, the tenant explained that they moved into their new apartment on October 1. It was only after unpacking some 90 percent of their things and building their new furniture, that they made their gruesome discovery. “I wanted to decorate my kitchen and put stuff on top of my cabinets. When I took a peek at them, I saw they were covered in dead cockroaches. I guess the previous tenant had a roach problem… and a mouse problem!” the poster wrote. “I looked under the cabinets on the floor and found a hole full of more dead roaches and mouse poop. I emailed the landlord and sent her pictures. She said maintenance would come to take care of it. They really didn’t though.” The landlord did indeed send maintenance to take care of the issue, but the way they dealt with it has been labeled by Reddit users as “unacceptable” and “absolutely foul.” A stock image shows a hand holding up a cockroach in the kitchen. “They just painted over the dead roaches and glued a piece of wood over the hole where the mouse poop is. I doubt they cleaned it first,” the poster said. “I want to email her again to complain, but what do I even say? Disgustingness aside, it is COMICAL how bad of a job they did to take care of this. “For $1700/month I expect to be given a clean apartment. I’m glad they took care of the roach/mouse problem before I got here, but they need to clean it up too.” Cockroaches are common all over the world and can cause health problems for people living in infested homes. They usually crawl indoors through small holes and cracks in the building or from openings around doors and windows. But they can also hide in bags, backpacks, suitcases and other containers to be accidentally smuggled inside. If you think your home has an infestation, alert pest management. To prevent roaches, keep stove tops, counters and floors clean of grease and food; repair any plumbing leaks; seal cracks and holes near doors, windows and other areas of the home; and always keep an eye out for signs of cockroaches, which can include eggs, droppings and shed skins. One user, boafriend, said: “Wow the landlord memes have come to life. That’s unacceptable all around.” Mad_harrt wrote: “Absolutely foul.” Mediocre-Stick-7787 commented: “My goodness this is my worst nightmare. I have a real fear of roaches and mice. You gotta keep complaining or terminate the lease if they won’t properly fix these issues. It’s beyond unacceptable.” Newsweek reached out to u/Doodleyfish for comment via Reddit.
