New Delhi: The 30-year-old man from Telangana, who was allegedly shot dead by the US police, was allegedly subjected to “racial hatred and discrimination”, his family members said Thursday. Mohammed Nizamuddin died in the United States after allegedly being shot by the police there following a “scuffle” with his roommate on September 3. His family was informed about his death after two weeks. In a recent post on social media, Nizamuddin said, “I have been a victim of racial hatred, racial discrimination, racial harassment, torture, wage-fraud, wrongful termination, and obstruction of Justice. “Today I decided to raise my voice against all odds… Oppression of corporate tyrants must end and everyone involved in it must be punished severely.”Telangana Techie Shot Dead by US Police Was Victim of ‘Racial Hatred, Wage-fraud’ The death of the 30-year-old Indian techie in Santa Clara, California, has drawn strong reactions, with police describing him as an armed aggressor, his family alleging a hasty and excessive response, and the neighbours recalling a domestic quarrel that turned deadly. Nizamuddin’s father has appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs to bring my son’s body back to India as soon as possible. “…I was informed today that my son was shot dead in California, America. My son went to study in America in 2016 at Florida College…He moved to California on a promotion, where he was shot dead. I appeal to the MEA Dr S Jaishankar, to bring my son’s body back to India as soon as possible,” said Nizamuddin’s father, Mohammad Amsuddhin, according to ANI. The family of Nizamuddin alleged that the shooting “happened so quickly.” “The account says the roommates had a quarrel — something about the AC or something in the room — and in the ensuing scuffle knives were involved. A neighbour phoned the police. When the police entered the room, they asked the occupants to show their hands. One boy complied; the other did not. The police then fired four rounds and the child was shot. It is extremely regrettable that, according to the reports, no proper inquiry took place and the shooting happened so quickly,” ANI quoted a relative said. According to a video released by Santa Clara police, they received a 911 (emergency call) involving a disturbance between two roommates. When the police reached the spot they received information that the situation had escalated and the suspect stabbed the victim, pinning him to the ground. “The officer attempted to deescalate the situation with verbal commands. But the suspect ignored the commands… When the officer saw the suspect’s hand holding a knife come down towards the victim, the officer shot four times,” Santa Clara police chief Morgan said in the video. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. On social media, Nizamuddin had shared that he faced a lot of hostility, poor, unacceptable environment, racial discrimination, and racial harassment and salary fraud where he worked. “They altogether wrongfully terminated my employment. It did not end there. They continued their harassment, discrimination and intimidating behavior by the help of a racist detective and team,” he had alleged. Lately, the situation has deteriorated. His food was poisoned and now that he was being evicted out of his residence for fighting against “unjust”, he had said. Reacting to the incident, Consulate General of India in San Francisco, in a post on ‘X’ said: “We are saddened by the death of an Indian national, Mr. Mohammed Nizamuddin, in an incident involving Santa Clara Police. We are in contact with the local authorities & the family, and we will extend all possible consular assistance. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family in this difficult time.” Meanwhile, Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan urged External Affairs Minister Jaishankar to help the family in the matter. Hasnuddin said his son has been working as a software professional in the US after completing MS there.
