The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) has announced significant changes regarding the TS Inter Exams 2026. It includes a revision of examination fees and the removal of the five-year completion rule for failed candidates. Fee Structure Changes Starting from the 2026 academic year, the TGBIE has increased the examination fee for the Intermediate Public Examinations (IPE). The fee for first-year students in both arts and science streams has risen from Rs 520 to Rs 530. Additionally, an extra charge of Rs 100 has been introduced for English practical exams. For second-year students, the fee has been set at Rs 630, while science and vocational candidates will now pay Rs 870, which includes Rs 530 for theory, Rs 240 for science practicals, and Rs 100 for English practicals. Students must pay their examination fees by the extended deadline of November 14, 2025, without incurring any late fees. The examination schedule indicates that the TS Inter 1st year exams will commence on February 25, 2026, followed by the 2nd year exams starting on February 26, 2026. Improvement Exam Provisions The TGBIE has also introduced provisions for improvement exams, allowing candidates who passed their Intermediate course in 2024 or later to enhance their performance within a two-year window. Candidates can avail themselves of two attempts during this period. Those who passed the IPE in March 2025 will have the opportunity to improve their scores in the March 2026 exams, provided they did not utilise their chances in previous examinations. Candidates wishing to improve must sit for all papers, including practicals, and they can choose to retain their current performance or their previous scores. Changes to Exam Eligibility A significant alteration to the examination rules is the removal of the five-year rule, which previously mandated that students complete their Intermediate course within five years. This regulation had restricted candidates who failed to clear all subjects within that timeframe from appearing for subsequent exams. With this new policy, candidates can now retake failed exams regardless of how long it has been since their initial attempt, providing a fresh opportunity for many. The TGBIE has also addressed issues of malpractice, stating that candidates involved in such practices must retake both theory and practical exams once they regain eligibility. The TS Inter Exams 2026 represent a pivotal moment for students in Telangana, as these changes aim to create a more inclusive and supportive examination environment. Students and educational institutions alike will benefit from the revised fee structure and enhanced opportunities for academic improvement. Implications for Students and Educational Institutions These updates reflect the TGBIE's commitment to adapting educational policies to better serve students' needs. The board's actions are expected to foster a fairer examination process, allowing more candidates to pursue their academic goals without the constraints of previous regulations. As the examination dates approach, students are encouraged to prepare diligently and take advantage of the new provisions. (With inputs from agencies)
