Hyderabad: Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha has directed officials to prepare detailed proposals for the comprehensive modernisation of the hospitals affiliated with Osmania Medical College (OMC), one of India’s most prestigious medical institutions.The directive, issued on Tuesday, aimed at upgrading the infrastructure and creating state-of-the-art facilities in the government teaching hospitals.Highlighting the college’s unmatched legacy, the minister said, “Osmania Medical College holds a distinction unmatched by any other institution in the country, with ten attached hospitals under its wing.”Also Read:Telangana Govt Medical Colleges get new Principals and SuperintendentsOsmania Medical College (OMC) oversees ten hospitals, including Osmania General Hospital, Niloufer Hospital, Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, MNJ Cancer Hospital, TB and Chest Hospital, Institute of Mental Health, Sultan Bazaar Maternity Hospital, Petlaburj Maternity Hospital, ENT Hospital, and Fever Hospital. Collectively, these institutions offer more than 5,000 beds and cater to lakhs of patients from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.Calling for restoration of their past glory, the minister asked health secretary Christina Chongthu and DME Narendra Kumar to resolve issues related to the new ENT Hospital building and Osmania Dental College land. He said he would personally visit all the hospitals to review patient services, reports the Deccan Chronicle.Also Read:Telangana Doctors Association highlights faculty shortage in Govt Medical CollegesMedical Dialogues had previously reported that the Telangana Health Department announced the appointment of principals and superintendents for all 34 government medical colleges and their affiliated teaching hospitals across the state. While several colleges already had appointed heads in place, the remaining vacancies were filled through a Government Order (GO) issued by Health Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu. The order formalises the temporary promotion of a panel of 44 senior faculty members, including special grade professors and professors, as Additional Directors of Medical Education (ADME) and institutional heads. The government has nearly completed the promotion process for 308 associate professors to full professors, which will resolve the shortage of department heads and senior faculty across government institutions.
