Teenager charged after bus station stabbing in Greater Manchester town

A teenager has been charged after reports of a stabbing at a bus station which left two people with ‘serious’ injuries. The 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged in relation to the incident at Wigan Interchange earlier this week. A 42-year-old man and 15-year-old boy were found to have suffered injuries that were described by police as ‘serious but not life-threatening.’ Greater Manchester Police have said that the victims are ‘recovering well’ and have now been discharged from hospital. It comes after the force issued a 48-hour dispersal order covering the whole of Wigan town centre on Thursday (September 11) amid an increase in crime and anti-social behaviour in the area, including the stabbings at the bus station. The order gives officers the power to order people to leave the town centre if they are engaging in, or are deemed likely to engage in, crime and anti-social behaviour. Police were called to reports of two stabbings at Wigan Interchange at around 5.20pm on Wednesday (September 10). The boy, who cannot be named, is due to appear at Manchester Youth Court today (September 12). Wigan Interchange, which was taped off to allow police to investigated the incident, has now returned to being ‘fully operational’. Detective Inspector Lee Shaw said: “Both victims are recovering well and have now been discharged from hospital following treatment. “The interchange is back to being fully operational, however additional patrols covering the area remain in place for reassurance.” — Day in day out, our reporters in the Manchester Evening News newsroom bring you remarkable stories from all aspects of Mancunian life.
