Police are investigating an incident in which a 14-year-old boy was injured after he and a cousin reportedly found a firearm in a forested area in Santa Cruz on Friday morning. The victim has been identified as a child from Cakes Land, La Canoa, Lower Santa Cruz. According to police, around 9:30 a.m. officers responded to a report of explosions heard at Cakes Land, La Canoa Road. When officers from the Santa Cruz CID and the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF) arrived, they were informed that the victim and his male cousin had discovered a firearm in a nearby forested area. While handling the weapon, it reportedly went off, and the boy was struck in the lower part of his body. He was taken to the Mt Hope Hospital where he was treated and listed in stable condition. Investigating officer WPC Jeremiah and other personnel later visited the scene, where they recovered a shotgun and a 12-gauge cartridge casing.
