Technopark has unveiled the master plan for its Phase IV expansion, a 389-acre township project that Kerala is expected to place Thiruvananthapuram firmly on the global IT map and strengthen the state’s ability to compete with established hubs such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune.Phase IV, branded as Technocity, is being developed as an integrated IT city, combining technology campuses, research institutions, residential and commercial zones, and social infrastructure. Designed by CP Kukreja Architects, the project is expected to attract Global Capability Centres (GCCs), emerging tech firms, and high-value R&D investments, while also generating significant employment in the coming years.“Phase IV is the next landmark destination in Thiruvananthapuram. This master plan integrates economic opportunity, sustainable urban design, and quality of life to create a robust digital ecosystem,” said Sanjeev Nair, CEO of Technopark.The master plan incorporates a walk-to-work model to blend workspaces with residential and social amenities. Projects already in place within the zone include the Digital University of Kerala, SunTec building, Kabani IT building, and TCS’s IT/ITeS hub. Upcoming developments include QUAD, a township comprising two IT towers, a commercial centre, and a residential complex.The plan also provides for specialised zones including a Kerala Space Park, an Emerging Technology Hub under Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), an MSME Technology Centre, and a proposed Central Forensic Science Laboratory. Retail and cultural facilities, healthcare, and education hubs have also been factored in.Live EventsThe Kerala government has identified the IT sector as a critical growth driver for the state’s economy, alongside tourism and healthcare. While the state has traditionally lagged behind Bengaluru and Hyderabad in attracting global IT majors, it has sharpened its focus on building infrastructure to support GCCs and high-value digital investments.Officials said the Phase IV expansion is part of Kerala’s broader strategy to attract next-generation industries such as space-tech, AI, semiconductors, and cybersecurity. “With the global GCC market expanding rapidly, Kerala wants to position itself as a sustainable, cost-competitive, and talent-rich alternative to traditional metros,” a senior official in the IT department said.Technopark, launched in 1990, is India’s largest IT park by developed area. It currently houses over 500 companies and employs more than 80,000 professionals.
