Leaders of Navyandhra Teachers Association urged the government to constitute a Cabinet sub-committee to decide the modalities for payment of pending dues worth ₹33,000 crore to government employees and teachers.
In a statement, the association’s State president K. Harikrishna and general secretary M. Srinivasa Rao said that if immediate payment was not possible, house sites should be allotted with 30 per cent subsidy. Housing Boards should be established in every revenue headquarters, district headquarters and in the Amaravati region to develop house sites.
They said that in the last eight years, pending dues of DA arrears, PRC arrears and surrender leave among other components, had accumulated to nearly ₹33,000 crore for government employees and teachers in the State. Failure of the government to pay the arrears had resulted in serious financial difficulties for employees and teachers. They said the proposed Cabinet sub-committee should be tasked with completing the payments within three months.
They said four DA instalments announced by the Central government had been pending for more than 50 months, while the Pay Revision Commission (PRC), which was due from July 2023, had been postponed by the government till September 2025. Apart from these, each CPS (Contributory Pension Scheme) employee had accumulated arrears to the tune of ₹5 lakh, they added. They said the inordinate delay in payment of arrears was affecting the living standards of the employees.
