Taxi flips over and crashes down footsteps outside Manchester city centre hotel

A taxi flipped over and crashed down footsteps in a crash outside a hotel and restaurant in Manchester city centre on Monday (October 27). Emergency services were called after the white Toyota swerved off the road, across the pavement and crashed down the steps outside the DoubleTree by Hilton and Store Street Exchange Restaurant on Auburn Street. Videos shared online showed the vehicle badly damaged after landing on its side on the steps. It was later hoisted up during recovery. Police were called and taped off the area during the emergency response. Greater Manchester Police said the car had been involved in a collision with another vehicle before it was overturned. A spokesperson for the DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Piccadilly said: "We can confirm a car accident occurred outside our hotel earlier today. "The incident is unrelated to the hotel, and all of our guests and team members are safe. We continue to support the emergency services with the recovery. "As this is an emergency services matter, we are unable to provide any further details.” --- Day in day out, our reporters in the Manchester Evening News newsroom bring you remarkable stories from all aspects of Mancunian life.
