Target Announces Major Price Reductions

Target, one of the nation's largest retailers, has announced price reductions on over 3,000 food, drink, and other household products, starting in November, to help families save money in the run-up to the holiday season. Why It Matters Many U.S. consumers are grappling with continued inflation, rising grocery costs, and increased food insecurity, especially as the holiday season approaches. Target’s price reductions on many essential items aim to help families stretch their budgets. What To Know Target has lowered prices on thousands of staple items, including household and pantry basics like Kraft Mac & Cheese ($1.69, down from $1.99) and Good & Gather Honeycrisp Apples ($5.99 for a 3 lb bag, previously $6.99). Over-the-counter medication and baby supplies are also discounted, such as Up & Up Cold & Flu syrup ($6.59, down from $9.19) and a 2-pack of Munchkin Sippy Cups ($5.79, down from $7.00). The retailer has reintroduced its Thanksgiving meal package—featuring store-brand and trusted national products—at its lowest price ever, costing less than $5 per person. Beyond seasonal savings, Target has also announced a $500,000 donation to Feeding America, aiming to provide 5 million meals through 200 food banks and 60,000 partner agencies. Target says that its contributions to food security have surpassed its $2.5 million goal for 2025. Over the past 20 years, Target has provided more than $16 million in grants to Feeding America. What People Are Saying Lisa Roath, Target’s executive vice president and chief merchandising officer of food, essentials and beauty, said: "I'm proud of the way our team quickly moved to lower prices on the items our guests need most. It's important work that will make a difference for families managing tight household budgets during the holidays. And it's work that builds on Target's legacy of strengthening communities through the way we run our business." Kiera Fernandez, Target’s executive vice president and chief community and stakeholder engagement officer, stated: "Target is proud to build on our longstanding partnership with Feeding America to help provide families access to nutritious food and essential resources. This donation reflects our deep commitment to supporting the 2,000 communities we serve." What Happens Next Target’s price reductions are expected to last throughout the holiday shopping season. Food banks will start to benefit from Target's $500,000 donation during a period of heightened need, and this could help address the effects of decreased government assistance for some low-income families.
