Taraji P. Henson & Joey Bada$$ To Star In 'Tis So Sweet' For Netflix

Taraji P. Henson (Straw) and Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott (aka Joey Bada$$) have signed on to star in ‘Tis So Sweet, the second film being made under a faith-based partnership between producers DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry and Netflix. Based on the true story of Lenore Lindsey, which went viral in November 2024, the film follows a Chicago bakery owner who is stunned by a miraculous discovery that challenges her to reclaim lost time, heal old wounds, and find purpose in the unexpected. News of the project comes following Netflix’s September 26 release of Ruth & Boaz, the first film under the Franklin-Perry deal. Serayah and Tyler Lepley starred in the pic, based on the biblical love story, which was an instant hit for Netflix, debuting at #2 on the Global Top 10 Movies List (English). Tasha Smith (Mayor of Kingstown) is directing from a script by Randy Brown (Miracles from Heaven), with Franklin and Perry producing. Executive producers include Tony Strickland and Angi Bones for Tyler Perry Studios, as well as Bart Lipton. A Golden Globe winner who has also been nominated for an Oscar and multiple Emmys, among many other accolades, Henson is best known for starring in Fox’s music-world drama Empire, along with films like Hustle & Flow, Hidden Figures, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Most recently, she signed on to star opposite Perry in Why Did I Get Married Again?, a new comedy following up 2007’s Why Did I Get Married? that’s also for Netflix. She last starred in the Netflix thriller Straw, written, directed and produced by Perry, and just inked a multi-year first-look deal with Fox Entertainment Studios for her TPH Entertainment, as we reported yesterday. She is repped by IAG, M88 and attorney Jamie Feldman of Lichter, Grossman, Nichols. A rapper and actor best known by the name Joey Bada$$, Scott has previously been seen on screen in shows like Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Mr. Robot and Grown-ish. He is repped by WME. An actor with more than 60 credits, Smith worked alongside Henson while playing a role on Empire and has recently directed episodes of shows like Survival of the Thickest, The Rookie, Harlem, Bel-Air, Mayor of Kingstown and BMF, among many others. She is repped by IAG and Rain. Known for his work on the films Miracles from Heaven and Trouble with the Curve, Brown is repped by Anonymous Content, UTA, and Myman Greenspan Fox. Franklin previously worked with Brown as a producer on Miracles from Heaven and has also worked on films like Flamin’ Hot, The Star and Breakthrough, as well as the BET+ show Kingdom Business. He is repped by WME, Artist Collective Entertainment, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller. For Perry, other current or recent projects include The Oval, Zatima, Beauty in Black, Divorced Sistas and Madea’s Destination Wedding, to name just a few. He is repped by WME and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
